For us it truly ended up being a labor day...we worked in the yard for the third and final day of clean up. (We dragged the kids out for two other consecutive Saturdays) While weeding, J saw this lizard on the wall. He promptly walked over to the wall and grabbed it. Just like that. We kept "Arthur" for a day but released him when he wouldn't eat the crickets we dropped in his container.
Another source of entertainment for the kids while working was rescuing worms. They'd find a worm on the edge of the grass about to move onto the patio. They'd carefully relocate the worms to the dirt under the apple tree.
We are thankful the kids pitched in with the yard work even if their actual hours of work versus 'play' varied. Although everyone likes to prune trees, not everyone likes to help with the aftermath. It's fun to chop a branch and yell 'timber' as the branches fall down. It's not very fun to rake up the leaves or bag all the dead branches. We filled almost a dozen large black lawn and leaf bags (spread out over three trash days). Maybe if we maintain the yard a little better it won't take so long to clean next time.
