Pioneer Trek

Over the four day weekend, E attended a youth pioneer trek.
It was hot. It was dusty. It was hard. It was worth it.
Over 160 youth were placed into pioneer families consisting of a Ma & Pa and about 8 siblings. Then, pioneer families were grouped into companies.  Five families per company.  This trek had four companies. Each family pulled and pushed a handcart with their belongings several miles per day to their next camp destination.  Their typical pioneer meal consisted of beans, saltines, and water. At night there were games, hoe downs, and firesides (but no showers!). E couldn't stop talking about everything that happened.  Along the way, different families experienced 'tragedy'. For example, a few boys 'hurt' their arms and couldn't pull the handcart.  Others 'were stuck' and had to wait for another family to rescue them. They also held church during the trek where E joined an impromptu choir.  We are thankful for the pioneers and the many miles they walked (and walked and walked).
What a great experience for the youth.
