Disney's Give a Day, Get a Day!!

Whew! After two days of pinning, cutting, and tying we did it! We signed up for Disney’s Give a Day, Get a Day. After volunteering for a local organization, volunteers are rewarded with a ticket to a Disney theme park. What a bonus! We found an opportunity which allowed our six year old to participate. We would make blankets for Project Linus.

Early Saturday morning, we loaded the kids in the van to choose material from Joann’s. Mom had suggested no-sew fleece blankets for the male members of our family. :) However, once we arrived at Joann’s, the girls fell in love with the soft & cuddly fleece material. So, we ended up with fleece blankets for everyone to create. Choosing fabric was easy for our Diva. Pink, of course! Her pastel pink choice coordinated perfectly with the print her older sister chose. Mom steered the youngest towards some baby print material. And our oldest found a loud print suitable for boys.

Our littlest one is actually to young for the Disney giveaway, but he helped out wanyway. His special jobs included holding the material and collecting the pins. Our oldest thought it was cool that he was using cub scout skills to make a blanket...tying square knots! Ha ha. The girls giggled while watching Daddy do something “girlie.” He was just thankful it was a ‘no-sew’ blanket. Hee hee.

All in all, it was a great experience. We had a good time talking about all sorts of things as we tied each of the blankets. Did you know, a girl's heartbeat is usually faster than a boy's? Where do they learn this stuff?

The kids have even asked if we can make more blankets. :) Sure!

Below is a picture of the flannel baby blanket the girls sewed all by themselves. The only help they received from Mom was threading the needle in the sewing machine!
