Allergies?

As if a broken washing machine wasn't enough of a challenge this week, our youngest battled some pretty fierce allergies.  His suffering broke my heart. On Sunday morning, one of his eyes had a small amount of hives on the eyelid.  It seemed to disappear after a couple of hours.  Sunday evening, the opposite eye began developing hives under his eye.  We gave him some allergy medicine and it went away.  Monday was free of hives. Tuesday brought the hives back in full force everywhere from head to toe.  He was itchy and miserable. After a visit to the pediatrician he was given a steroid, which didn't seem to really help.  His regular allergy medicine seemed to be more effective at keeping the hives at bay. Yet, the hives would return every couple of hours. It was scary and sad. When he went to have his blood drawn (three tubes!) for allergy testing, it took forever. It left him bruised and teary eyed.

We took his mind off the pain (while he was free from hives for a couple hours) at Chuck E. Cheese.  (It is a tradition to go to Chuck E Cheese following a doctors' visit that involves vaccination shots)

J continued to break out in hives everyday. A dose of allergy medication would clear it up for a couple of hours. Finally, on Saturday, the hives only appeared on his feet.  Poor guy has been through a rough week.  It will be good to know what triggered such a strong allergic reaction when we get his blood test results.
