Island Birthday

M began her two day birthday celebration at Waikiki beach.  It was still a little crowded so after a couple of hours we went back to the hotel to swim in the pool.

She chose Zippy's as her place to dine with family.  Nanay and Papa Joe met us there.

After dinner the kids sang some of the songs they learned from their summer music camp for Nanay. M was treated to a fireworks show on her birthday! (The Hilton does fireworks every Friday in the summer for those in the Waikiki area.)

The next day Nanay and Papa Joe introduced the kids to the KROC Center.  It's like our Desert Breeze Community Center, only bigger.

They enjoyed water slides, lazy rivers, and numerous water features.
(Meanwhile hubby and I worked out in the gym!)

Then, they realized there were diving boards.  Just the night before, they had stayed up late watching the Olympics.  Among the events we watched were gymnastics, swimming, and diving.
In order to use the diving boards, each guest had to pass a swim test.  Thank goodness for swim lessons. The first time J attempted his swim test he was zig zagging all down the lane.  The life guard stopped him.  We realized J didn't have his goggles on. Once he had his goggles on, he swam his two laps just fine.

Then they were off to use the diving boards and the AquaClimb.

Dad took advantage of the lap swimming.

As we were leaving to go to dinner this double rainbow appeared.

Aunty Jen joined us for M's birthday dinner at Max's.
